Overview

Transmembrane protein 132C (TMEM132C) is a predicted multi-pass membrane protein belonging to the TMEM132 family, which is conserved in vertebrates and shares domain architecture with other family members including extracellular cohesin and Ig-like domains[3]. TMEM132C is classified within the protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit family (PPP1R), but its precise molecular function remains to be elucidated. In situ hybridization studies in mouse embryonic tissues show that TMEM132C is expressed in regions such as the dorsal midbrain, somites, surface ectoderm, and certain parts of the cochlea; this suggests potential roles in nervous system and inner ear development[3]. While the TMEM132 family as a whole is associated with some human genetic disorders (mainly neurological) and possibly with cancer, there are currently no drugs targeting TMEM132C and its direct physiological roles or disease associations are largely unknown[1][3].
