Overview

Transmembrane protein 134 (TMEM134) is a small, highly conserved transmembrane protein encoded by the TMEM134 gene, which is located on chromosome 11q13.2 in humans[1][3]. The protein has 195 amino acids and features two transmembrane domains as well as a domain of unknown function (DUF872)[1][3]. It is ubiquitously expressed in human tissues, with higher levels in the heart, breast, and prostate[1][4]. TMEM134 is predominantly localized to the endoplasmic reticulum and nuclear membrane, is predicted to be phosphorylated post-translationally, and interacts with proteins such as ELAVL1 and the EBV latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1)[1][3]. While its exact molecular function remains unknown, TMEM134 has been identified as a potential LMP1-binding partner and candidate oncogene in breast cancer models, suggesting possible roles in carcinogenesis or viral signaling pathways[3].
