Overview

Transmembrane protein 218 (TMEM218) is a multi-pass membrane protein predicted to be localized in the cilium and membrane; it may be involved in ciliary biogenesis or function. Mutations in TMEM218 are implicated in ciliary dysfunction leading to a spectrum of disorders known as ciliopathies, notably Joubert syndrome 39 and Meckel syndrome type 4, but it is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target, and no drugs are known to directly interact with it[2][5][6][7][9].
