Transmembrane protein 229A (TMEM229A) is an integral membrane protein predicted to contain multiple transmembrane domains. Its expression is significantly reduced in non-small cell lung cancer, and low TMEM229A levels are associated with poor patient prognosis. Overexpression of TMEM229A suppresses EMT, enhances E-cadherin expression, decreases N-cadherin and related metastasis markers, and inhibits cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. It negatively regulates ERK and AKT signaling pathways, suggesting a potential role as a tumor suppressor and molecular target in lung cancer biology[1][2][3].
