Transmembrane protein 245 (TMEM245)

TMEM245
Molecular classification

Overview

Transmembrane protein 245 is a protein-coding gene product predicted to be a membrane-localized protein, expressed in multiple tissues and cell types, including cytoplasmic and membranous compartments. Genetic association studies have linked variants in TMEM245 (also known as C9orf5 or CG-2) to negative symptoms in schizophrenia, suggesting a possible, but not yet mechanistically understood, role in neural or synaptic pathways. TMEM245 is also implicated in rare disorders such as developmental and epileptic encephalopathy 37 and hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type III. The precise molecular function remains unknown, and it is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target. No drugs are known to interact with TMEM245, and it is not used as a biomarker in clinical practice.
