TMEM247
Molecular classification
Transmembrane protein, Other (integral membrane protein)

Overview

Transmembrane protein 247 is a multi-pass membrane protein encoded by the TMEM247 gene in humans. Its canonical structure predicts two transmembrane domains located near the C-terminus, with the protein likely residing in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. The biological function of TMEM247 is not known, and it lacks significant functional characterization in available literature. Although largely expressed in the testes, studies suggest no significant role in reproduction, and only indirect or weak genetic associations with diseases such as coronary artery disease have been proposed. TMEM247 is highly conserved among land vertebrates, but its role, if any, in cellular processes, disease, or as a therapeutic target, remains undefined. No drugs are known to interact with this protein, it is not used as a biomarker, and it currently has no direct therapeutic relevance.
