Overview

Transmembrane protein 250 (TMEM250, also known as C9orf69) is a relatively uncharacterized membrane-spanning protein found in human cells. It is predicted to participate in the positive regulation of cell population proliferation and viral processes, and has been observed in both the cytoplasm and nucleoplasm. Bioinformatic interaction networks suggest it may be functionally associated with septin family GTPases, which are involved in cell division and cytoskeletal organization. There is no evidence for its involvement in drug interactions, biomarker applications, or established disease roles, and the physiological mechanisms underlying its function remain largely undefined. Although some aliases suggest a potential link to herpes virus biology (Herpes virus UL25-binding protein), the function and validation of this association in human biology is unclear and not substantiated in current protein databases. TMEM family proteins are broadly associated with cell homeostasis, and some members are implicated in cancer and cell migration, but this has not been directly established for TMEM250. TMEM250’s protein interaction partners are primarily cytoskeletal septin GTPase proteins, particularly those involved in cytokinesis. No clinical or translational relevance is assigned to TMEM250 as of current data.
