Transmembrane protein 254 (TMEM254) is a small transmembrane protein predicted to contain five transmembrane domains and to localize to membranes, with highest expression in reproductive tissues, thyroid, kidney, skin, breast, and testes[1][7][12]. It consists of 147 amino acids and has a predicted molecular weight of about 16.4 kDa[1][12]. TMEM254 is highly conserved across eukaryotes but lacks known paralogs and has a protein domain classified as DUF4499, which is a “domain of unknown function”[1][2][6][12]. The biological function of TMEM254 remains uncharacterized, with no conclusive data on its involvement in cell signaling, metabolism, or other cellular pathways[2][4][6].
