Overview

Transmembrane protein 255A (TMEM255A), also known as FAM70A, is a predicted integral membrane protein with four transmembrane domains primarily localized to the nuclear envelope in eukaryotic cells[1][5]. The human TMEM255A gene resides on chromosome Xq24 and encodes a protein of 349 amino acids, predicted to have a molecular weight of ~38 kDa[1][5]. TMEM255A is moderately expressed in various tissues, most notably in the brain, nerve, testis, ovary, thymus, and kidney[1][4]. It may be involved in cellular processes regulated by ubiquitination and protein degradation, indicated by its predicted interaction with E3 ubiquitin ligases and other regulatory proteins[1]. Current data does not implicate TMEM255A as a receptor, transporter, enzyme, or classical therapeutic target; rather, it is a less-characterized membrane-associated protein with ongoing investigation into possible roles in cancer biology, particularly glioblastoma multiforme[1][3]. No approved drugs, validated disease biomarkers, or safety/therapeutic risk information are documented for this target at present[1][3][5].
