Transmembrane protein 258 (TMEM258)

Target
TMEM258
Molecular classification
Transmembrane protein, Glycosyltransferase complex subunit, Other (specifically: oligosaccharyltransferase complex component)
01

Overview

Transmembrane protein 258 (TMEM258) is a subunit of the oligosaccharyltransferase (OST) complex, which catalyzes the transfer of a glycan from dolichol-pyrophosphate to an asparagine residue of nascent polypeptide chains—a key step in cotranslational protein N-linked glycosylation. TMEM258 is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and works as part of complexes necessary for maximal OST activity. It is implicated in ER homeostasis and cellular processes relevant to epithelial cells. Disease associations include spinocerebellar ataxia 20 and chronic laryngitis. No drugs or biomarkers are directly associated with TMEM258, and it is not considered a therapeutic target in current literature.
