Overview

Transmembrane protein 31 (TMEM31) is a human membrane protein, also known as testicular secretory protein Li 58, with a molecular weight of about 19.8 kDa[6][8]. The TMEM31 gene encodes a predicted single-pass or multi-pass membrane protein, but its physiological function remains largely uncharacterized. Research has highlighted TMEM31 as a potential immunogenic cancer/testis antigen, particularly in melanoma, where its epitopes have been studied for their ability to elicit cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses and for possible use in peptide and DNA vaccine development[5]. There is currently insufficient evidence regarding its endogenous biological functions, established drug interactions, or clear safety concerns. TMEM31 is not part of any major protein family such as G protein-coupled receptors, ion channels, enzymes, or transporters; it is grouped under "Other" due to lack of mechanistic data. It may serve as a biomarker target for immunotherapy in certain cancers but is not broadly used in clinical practice[5][9].
