Transmembrane protein 52 (TMEM52) is a predicted single-pass transmembrane protein encoded by the TMEM52 gene on chromosome 1 and found in diverse eukaryotes[9][5][4]. Its localization is membrane-associated, but specific endogenous ligands, molecular pathways, and detailed functions remain uncertain[2][9]. Recent studies suggest TMEM52 (sometimes referred to with the synonym Shkbp1 in certain literature) may promote tumor cell migration, invasion, and metastasis and influence the immune microenvironment, potentially serving as a novel candidate for dual-action cancer therapies aimed at both tumor suppression and modulation of anti-tumor immunity[1]. However, its precise biological activities and therapeutic tractability remain incompletely characterized, and currently, no drugs targeting TMEM52 have been reported in standard pharmacological databases[3][9].
