Target intelligence / Profile preview
Transmembrane protein 54 (TMEM54) is a protein-coding gene product located in cellular membranes and is predicted to play a role as a membrane/integral membrane protein[1][5][6]. It is also known as beta-casein-like protein or CAC-1, identified originally through cloning in a cervical adenocarcinoma cell line[7]. TMEM54 is associated with several cancers, including cervical adenocarcinoma and liver adenocarcinoma, but its precise molecular or physiological function remains undetermined. There is no direct evidence it acts as a classic receptor, enzyme, ion channel, transporter, or transcription factor; nor are there documented drugs or targeted therapies against it, making it more of a candidate or putative biomarker in oncology research rather than a validated therapeutic target[1][3][8].
