Overview

Transmembrane protein 60 (TMEM60) is a poorly characterized transmembrane protein that is found to be abnormally overexpressed in glioma, where it plays an oncogenic role by promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and inhibiting apoptosis[1][3]. TMEM60 acts as a positive regulator of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, contributing to aggressive tumor phenotypes and resistance to cell death[1]. Recent multi-cohort studies confirm high TMEM60 expression is associated with unfavorable clinical features and poor prognosis in glioma patients, with links to immune evasion, increased immune checkpoint expression, and altered immune cell infiltration within the tumor microenvironment[3]. It has been proposed as a potential therapeutic target and biomarker, although no targeted drugs or inhibitors have been identified or developed to date[1][3].
