Overview

Transmembrane protein 61 is a small, multi-pass integral membrane protein (about 210 amino acids, ~22 kDa) predicted to contain two transmembrane domains and a DUF308 and MTP domain, suggesting a likely structural or trafficking role in membranes. It is highly expressed in renal, adrenal, pituitary, salivary, and digestive tract tissues, with limited expression in the brain and pancreas. TMEM61 does *not* promote cancer growth, and its biological roles remain poorly characterized, with no direct links to common disease mechanisms, biomarker status, or known drug interactions. It is part of the larger TMEM family, which comprises numerous membrane-localized proteins with diverse functions, some of which are involved in disease[1][2][3][4][5][7].

Biological functions

Predicted membrane localizationPossibly involved in membrane structure and spanning transportation (through the MTP domain)No well-characterized biological functions; not established roles in signal transduction, apoptosis, cell cycle, etc.
03

Disease associations

Other (no clear association to cancer, inflammation, neurodegenerative disease, or other major disease classifications as a direct disease modulator)The TMEM family more broadly is implicated in cancer, cardiovascular and kidney diseases, but TMEM61 is not recognized for a direct disease modulation role nor as a biomarker.
