Target intelligence / Profile preview
Transmembrane protein 78 (TMEM78) is a human protein encoded by the TMEM78 gene. It is predicted to be a single- or multi-pass membrane protein, based primarily on bioinformatics. TMEM78 is currently categorized as a member of the broader transmembrane (TMEM) protein family, a large class of proteins that span cellular membranes and take part in a variety of physiological processes. However, the specific biological role, tissue distribution, and clinical significance of TMEM78 remain poorly characterized in the scientific literature, and it is not currently recognized as a drug target or as having a role in specific pathologies[5][10]. Research on other TMEM family members highlights their importance in membrane-related functions and in some cancers, but this cannot reliably be extrapolated to TMEM78 without direct evidence.
