Overview

Transmembrane protein 92 (TMEM92) is a protein-coding gene located on human chromosome 17 that encodes a multi-pass transmembrane protein. It is associated with regulation of cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and modulation of cellular metabolism, particularly in cancer contexts such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and breast carcinoma[2][3][4][5]. TMEM92 is highly expressed in malignant epithelial cells and has been identified as an independent unfavorable prognostic marker in pancreatic cancer, where its overexpression correlates with immune resistance and poor outcomes[4]. Experimental knockdown of TMEM92 suppresses proliferation and invasion in pancreatic cancer cell lines, while its overexpression is linked to tumor-promoting characteristics in both pancreatic and breast cancer cells[2][3][4][5]. TMEM92 may act as a marker for high-risk, immunotherapy-resistant subgroups of pancreatic cancer and may help guide personalized therapeutic decisions and targeted prevention strategies[4]. No current drugs are known to directly target TMEM92, and its therapeutic targeting as a strategy is under investigation[4][5].
