Target intelligence / Profile preview

Transporter 1, ATP Binding Cassette Subfamily B Member (TAP1)

Target
TAP1
Molecular classification
ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter, Transporter, MDR/TAP subfamily
01

Overview

TAP1 is an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter protein that forms a heterodimer with TAP2 to create the TAP complex. This complex is located in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and transports peptides derived from cytosolic proteins into the ER. These peptides are then loaded onto MHC class I molecules and presented on the cell surface, initiating an immune response. Mutations in TAP1 can lead to Bare Lymphocyte Syndrome Type I and may be associated with other autoimmune diseases.
