Overview

TRDN antisense RNA 1 (TRDN-AS1) is a cardiomyocyte-specific lncRNA arising from the antisense strand between exons 9 and 11 of the triadin gene (TRDN). Highly expressed in normal human heart tissue, its primary role is to regulate the alternative splicing and expression levels of the cardiac isoform of triadin, which is vital for calcium homeostasis and electrical activity in the heart. TRDN-AS1 achieves this by interacting with serine/arginine (SR) splicing factors. Its downregulation is strongly correlated with decreased triadin expression in heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias, suggesting involvement in disease pathogenesis. TRDN-AS1 is considered an emerging therapeutic and biomarker target for cardiovascular conditions.
