Overview
Treponema pallidum repeat K protein (TprK) is a member of the Tpr (Treponema pallidum repeat) gene family found in the bacterium *Treponema pallidum*, the causative agent of syphilis. TprK undergoes antigenic variation via non-reciprocal gene conversion, allowing *T. pallidum* to evade host immune responses. It is considered a therapeutic target due to its central role in syphilis pathogenesis, but its extreme variability poses challenges for vaccine development. Conserved domains are promising targets for future interventions.
