Trichomonas vaginalis (T. vaginalis)

Target
T. vaginalis
Molecular classification
Protozoan parasite
01

Overview

*Trichomonas vaginalis* is an anaerobic flagellated protozoan parasite that causes trichomoniasis, a common sexually transmitted infection affecting the urogenital tract. It is associated with adverse health outcomes, including increased risk of HIV acquisition and preterm birth. The parasite is treatable with metronidazole or tinidazole, but resistance to these drugs is a growing concern.
