GART is a trifunctional enzyme essential for the de novo biosynthesis of purines, catalyzing three sequential reactions in the pathway that leads to inosine monophosphate (IMP). It functions as Phosphoribosylamine–glycine ligase (GARS), Phosphoribosylglycinamide formyltransferase (GAR transformylase), and AIR synthetase (AIRS).
