The triglyceride (also called triacylglycerol, TAG) synthesis pathway is a central metabolic process responsible for the formation of triglycerides from fatty acids and glycerol. Triglycerides are the primary storage form of energy in animals and plants, stored mainly in adipose tissue and seeds. The pathway is highly conserved across species, with key steps occurring predominantly in liver, adipose tissue, intestines, and certain plant tissues. It consists of Fatty acyl-CoA Biosynthesis, Conversion to Phosphatidic Acid, Formation of Diacylglycerol (DAG), and Synthesis of Triacylglycerol.
