Overview

Trinucleotide repeat-containing gene 6C protein (TNRC6C) is a member of the GW182 family of proteins, primarily functioning as an essential effector of miRNA-mediated gene silencing[1][2][3][5]. TNRC6C acts as a scaffold protein that interacts with Argonaute proteins in cytoplasmic processing bodies (P-bodies) to mediate translational repression and promote deadenylation and decay of target mRNAs[1][3][5]. It also recruits CCR4-NOT and PAN deadenylase complexes as part of this gene silencing process[1]. TNRC6C’s regulatory role influences cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis in certain cancer types, such as papillary thyroid carcinoma, where its decreased expression is associated with tumorigenic progression[2]. While it is not a classic therapeutic target (such as a receptor or enzyme), its central role in post-transcriptional regulation makes it functionally significant in gene expression control and cancer biology[1][2].
