Overview

TRIO and F-actin-binding protein (TRIOBP) is a human protein encoded by the TRIOBP gene. It binds directly to filamentous F-actin, stabilizing F-actin structures and playing a critical role in the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton, cell motility, and growth. TRIOBP interacts with Trio, a protein involved in neural tissue development, and is essential for the correct progression of mitosis and the formation of stereocilia rootlets in the inner ear. Mutations in TRIOBP are associated with hereditary forms of deafness, particularly autosomal recessive nonsyndromic deafness type DFNB28. Multiple isoforms exist due to alternative splicing, with some transcripts possibly subject to nonsense-mediated decay[1][2][4][5][7].
