Overview

Triosephosphate isomerase 1 pseudogene 3 (TPI1P3) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome. Unlike its parent gene TPI1, which encodes a critical glycolytic enzyme involved in energy metabolism, TPI1P3 contains sequence homology to TPI1 but is nonfunctional, lacking the ability to produce an active protein[1][7]. Processed pseudogenes arise via retrotransposition, where a copy of the mRNA of a functional gene is reverse-transcribed and inserted elsewhere in the genome, typically without introns, promoters, or regulatory elements necessary for proper expression[4]. TPI1P3, like other pseudogenes, does not participate in biological processes, does not have established roles in disease, and is not a therapeutic target[1][5][7]. There is no evidence for protein-coding capability, disease association, drug interaction, or use as a clinical biomarker[1][2][7]. Any references to function or disease relate to the parent gene TPI1, not to TPI1P3.
