Overview

Triosephosphate isomerase 1 pseudogene 4 (TPI1P4) is a non-functional, non-coding genomic element located on human chromosome 4p11. It is a processed pseudogene derived from the functional TPI1 gene, which encodes the glycolytic enzyme triosephosphate isomerase. Pseudogenes like TPI1P4 result from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and contain disabling mutations, such as frameshifts or premature stop codons, that prevent them from encoding functional proteins. TPI1P4 is not known to have any regulatory function, does not give rise to protein or functional RNA, and has no documented involvement in human diseases or pharmacology. Pseudogenes are typically remnants of once-functional genes rendered inactive by disabling mutations or transcriptional silencing. Some pseudogenes in the human genome can play regulatory roles or produce noncoding transcripts, but there is no evidence this applies to TPI1P4. Clinical, biomarker, or therapeutic relevance for TPI1P4 has not been reported in the literature or major genetic databases.
