Overview

Tripartite motif containing 60 pseudogene 18 (TRIM60P18) is a noncoding pseudogene in the human genome, related by sequence to the tripartite motif family gene TRIM60. Like other pseudogenes, it is considered a degenerate copy that does not encode a functional protein; its regulatory or clinical relevance is not established, and it is not a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes can sometimes influence the expression of related coding genes via noncoding RNA mechanisms, but there is no evidence that TRIM60P18 has such a function[1][2][3]. Pseudogenes are generally nonfunctional DNA segments which resemble coding genes but have lost their protein-coding ability due to mutations, loss of regulatory sequences, or aberrant transcription[2][3]. Some pseudogenes are transcribed and have regulatory effects on gene expression, predominantly through RNA-based mechanisms such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or microRNA sponges[2][3]. Not all pseudogenes have demonstrated biological or clinical impact; TRIM60P18 specifically has none recorded[1][3].
