Tripartite motif containing 80, pseudogene (TRIM80P)

Target
TRIM80P
Molecular classification
Other, TRIM gene family, Pseudogene
01

Overview

TRIM80P belongs to the large family of tripartite motif (TRIM) genes, which typically encode proteins with E3 ubiquitin ligase activity and are involved in diverse cellular processes such as protein degradation, immune regulation, and cell cycle control. However, TRIM80P is specifically annotated as a pseudogene in the human genome. A pseudogene is a DNA sequence that resembles a gene but is generally non-functional due to mutations or truncations that prevent it from producing a functional protein product. As such, TRIM80P does not produce a functional protein and has no known biological function, disease association, drug interactions, or therapeutic relevance. Its identification in gene databases is useful primarily for genomic annotation and evolutionary studies, but it is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or biomarker in the current scientific or clinical context. This entry may be the result of a mistaken inclusion as a functional target, when in fact, as a pseudogene, TRIM80P should not be considered a druggable or therapeutically relevant target for research or clinical purposes.
