Overview

CU1276 (also annotated as MIR1276, hsa-mir-1276, etc.) is not a conventional microRNA, but rather a small RNA fragment derived from the 3′ end of mature tRNA molecules in human cells, particularly abundant in normal germinal center B cells[1]. While it possesses the functional and structural hallmarks of a microRNA—including DICER1-dependent biogenesis, Argonaute association, and seed-mediated repression of mRNA—it is derived from tRNA rather than canonical miRNA precursors[1]. CU1276 represses endogenous genes such as RPA1 (Replication Protein A1), thereby suppressing cellular proliferation and modulating the response to DNA damage. Its expression is observed to be absent or markedly reduced in GC-derived lymphomas, implying a potential tumor suppressor-like function in B-cell biology[1]. Notably, although it has functional significance, it is *not* a widely recognized therapeutic target or druggable receptor/enzyme, and its primary importance is in fundamental gene regulation and cancer biology research—hence, the target name \"microRNA 1276 / MIR1276\" may be considered potentially misleading due to its non-canonical status and lack of conventional therapeutic targeting[1].
