Overview

tRNA selenocysteine 1-associated protein 1 (TRNAU1AP) is a protein encoded by the TRNAU1AP gene, mainly involved in the early stages of selenocysteine biosynthesis and the specific charging of selenocysteine tRNA (tRNA(Sec)). This process is essential for the co-translational incorporation of selenocysteine into selenoproteins during translation. The protein stabilizes a complex containing SECISBP2, EEFSEC, and tRNA(Sec), which is necessary for efficient selenoprotein synthesis and may also be involved in tRNA(Sec) methylation[1][2][6]. TRNAU1AP is predicted to be found in the cytoplasm and nucleus and displays RNA binding activity. Disruption or variation in TRNAU1AP is associated with rare metabolic disease (Combined D-2- and L-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria), but no direct involvement in common diseases, no known drugs, and no therapeutic targeting have been established[1][5][6].
