tRNA splicing endonuclease subunit 15 pseudogene 2 (TSEN15P2) is a human pseudogene related to the functional TSEN15 gene. While TSEN15 encodes a non-catalytic subunit of the tRNA splicing endonuclease complex required for the removal of introns from pre-tRNA, TSEN15P2 itself does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes like TSEN15P2 may arise through duplication or retrotransposition events, but generally lack recognized biological activity and are not considered drug targets. In contrast, the parent gene TSEN15 plays an essential role in neuronal development and is implicated in pontocerebellar hypoplasia when mutated.
