Overview

Trophinin-associated protein (TROAP, also known as tastin) is a cytoplasmic protein that plays critical roles in cell adhesion (especially during embryo implantation), microtubule cytoskeleton assembly, and mitotic spindle formation. TROAP is essential for the activity of the trophinin-bystin complex in mediating initial attachment between embryonic cells and the uterine epithelium. Beyond its established developmental roles, TROAP is frequently overexpressed in a variety of human cancers—where it acts as a key factor in promoting tumor cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, migration, and invasion, likely through interaction with multiple oncogenic signaling pathways. In multiple tumor types, high TROAP expression correlates with poor prognosis, tumor aggressiveness, and reduced overall survival, positioning it as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in oncology[1][3][4][6].
