Tropomyosin 1 pseudogene (ENSG00000234337) is a nonfunctional DNA segment in the human genome with sequence similarity to the tropomyosin 1 gene. Unlike functional protein-coding genes, pseudogenes such as this one are defined by sequence defects (such as frameshifts or premature stop codons), deletions, or absence of necessary gene regulatory elements, and thus cannot produce a functional protein[3][4]. While pseudogenes may sometimes generate RNA transcripts, these generally have little or no known biological function, and this locus is not involved in canonical disease mechanisms, drug targeting, or clinical biomarker applications. The correct therapeutic target, in the case of tropomyosin biology, would be the functional tropomyosin 1 gene, not its pseudogene counterpart[3][4].
