Overview

Tropomyosin 3 pseudogene 4 (TPM3P4) is a non-coding genetic element classified as a pseudogene of TPM3. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but non-functional, often due to mutations, lack of regulatory elements, or incomplete duplication. While the functional TPM3 gene encodes alpha-tropomyosin, with essential roles in actin filament regulation and muscle contraction, TPM3P4 does not produce a functional protein. The biological relevance of TPM3P4 is unclear and it is not considered to be a therapeutic target[6][8][4].
