Troponin C (cTnC), encoded by the TNNC1 gene, is a calcium-binding protein expressed in cardiac and slow skeletal muscle. It is a crucial component of the troponin complex, regulating muscle contraction by binding calcium ions and initiating the actin-myosin interaction. Mutations in TNNC1 are associated with cardiomyopathies.
