Overview

TRPC5 opposite strand protein (TRPC5OS) is the antisense transcript of the TRPC5 gene, referred to as TRPC5 antisense RNA 1 (TRPC5-AS1). This gene encodes a small microprotein (111 amino acids) found primarily in testis and abnormally upregulated in breast and other cancers. Functional studies in breast cancer cells show that TRPC5OS overexpression promotes cell division and proliferation, with gene ontology linking its activity to regulation of these processes and signaling pathways such as homologous recombination and TNF. Seventeen proteins have been identified as potential interaction partners, including ENO1 (enolase 1), which is involved in glycolysis and may contribute to the cancer-promoting activity of TRPC5OS. Current research makes TRPC5OS a promising candidate as a therapeutic target and molecular marker in oncology, especially for triple-negative breast cancer.
