TRPM2 antisense RNA (TRPM2-AS) is a cancer-associated long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), transcribed antisense to the TRPM2 gene at 21q22.3. TRPM2-AS is frequently overexpressed in a range of cancers and has been shown to regulate key oncogenic processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion, and resistance to chemotherapy, mainly through acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by sponging various microRNAs. It influences the expression of cancer-related genes and signaling pathways—such as EGFR, PI3K/AKT, and WEE1—thereby promoting tumor growth and metastasis. TRPM2-AS is considered both a potential biomarker and a therapeutic target in oncology. However, it does not encode a protein and acts primarily through post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms affecting its sense partner gene (TRPM2) and other genes involved in tumor biology.
