TRPM8 channel associated factor 2 (TCAF2)

TCAF2
Molecular classification
Accessory protein, Regulatory protein, Other (TRP channel-associated factor)
01

Overview

TRPM8 channel associated factor 2 (TCAF2) is an accessory protein that directly binds to the TRPM8 channel, a non-selective cation channel with roles in thermosensation and prostate cancer[1][4]. TCAF2 helps recruit TRPM8 to the plasma membrane and promotes prostate cancer cell migration. It has an opposing function to its close paralog TCAF1, which inhibits cancer cell migration and supports TRPM8 activity. TCAF2 is not a typical therapeutic target itself but is part of the regulatory machinery of the TRPM8 channel, which is a validated drug target in cancer and other diseases[1][4]. The encoded protein is primarily found in the plasma membrane and cell junctions, plays a regulatory role, and may contribute to cancer progression[4]. If you seek information on a classical drug target, consider TRPM8 itself (Transient receptor potential melastatin 8) rather than TCAF2.
