Trypanosoma cruzi Mucin (TcMUC)

Target
TcMUC
Molecular classification
Glycoprotein, Surface protein
01

Overview

Trypanosoma cruzi mucins are a family of heavily glycosylated surface proteins that form a dense layer covering the parasite. They are involved in host cell attachment and invasion, as well as protecting the parasite from the host's immune system. TcMUC I is predominant in amastigotes, while TcMUC II dominates trypomastigote membrane lipid rafts. These proteins have O-glycosylation sites flanked by signal peptides/GPI-anchor signals, making them potential targets for therapeutic intervention aimed at blocking parasite-host interactions.
