Tryptophan Hydroxylase 2 (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Aromatic amino acid hydroxylase
01

Overview

Tryptophan hydroxylase 2 (TPH2) is an enzyme that catalyzes the rate-limiting step in the biosynthesis of serotonin in the central nervous system. It is a member of the aromatic amino acid hydroxylase superfamily and is distinct from TPH1, which operates primarily in peripheral tissues. Mutations or polymorphisms in TPH2 are associated with various psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety disorders, aggression-related behaviors, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, catalepsy, and other stress-related conditions.
