Overview

Tryptophanyl tRNA synthetase 2 pseudogene 1 (WARS2P1) is a human pseudogene that is related in sequence to the functional gene encoding mitochondrial tryptophanyl-tRNA synthetase (WARS2)[3][6]. Unlike WARS2, the protein-coding gene responsible for mitochondrial tryptophan charging and with established biological roles, WARS2P1 does not produce a functional protein and is not known to have any enzymatic, receptor, or transporter activity[3][6]. WARS2P1 is classified as a pseudogene, which means it likely arose from gene duplication or retrotransposition but has lost its protein-coding function through mutation[3][6]. There is no evidence that WARS2P1 is implicated in disease, interacts with drugs, or is used as a therapeutic target in research or clinical settings[3][6]. WARS2P1 is specifically a pseudogene, not a protein-coding gene or functional biological target. The functional mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes aminoacylation of tRNA^Trp^ is encoded by the related gene WARS2 (do not confuse WARS2 with WARS2P1)[2][7]. All information relevant to protein function, disease association, and druggability applies to WARS2 (tryptophanyl-tRNA synthetase 2, mitochondrial), not to WARS2P1.
