TSHR antisense RNA 1 (TSHR-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA gene located overlapping the TSHR (thyroid stimulating hormone receptor) gene locus. It is classified as a lncRNA and is hypothesized to play a regulatory role in TSHR gene expression, potentially influencing thyroid function and related diseases such as hypothyroidism[1]. There are no current drugs or clinical therapies that target TSHR-AS1, and its function is not as well characterized as protein-coding genes. It is not a therapeutic target in the way that receptors, enzymes, or transporters are. Do not confuse TSHR-AS1 (a non-coding RNA) with TSHR (thyroid stimulating hormone receptor), which is a well-characterized G protein–coupled receptor and drug target in thyroid disorders such as Graves’ disease and hypothyroidism[4].
