Overview

TSPAN14 antisense RNA 1 (TSPAN14-AS1) is a non-protein-coding antisense RNA gene located on human chromosome 10 (region 10q23.2, coordinates 80,527,688-80,543,244, reverse strand)[3]. The gene is transcribed in the direction opposite to the TSPAN14 gene. Antisense RNAs, such as TSPAN14-AS1, can regulate gene expression at various levels (replication, transcription, translation), typically by pairing with their sense mRNA partner or by influencing chromatin changes[7]. As of now, there are no studies clarifying a direct biological function, molecular mechanism, or disease link for TSPAN14-AS1, nor is there evidence it serves as a direct therapeutic target. It is important not to confuse TSPAN14-AS1 with TSPAN14 (tetraspanin 14), the latter being a protein-coding gene involved in Notch signaling, membrane biology, and associated with disease mechanisms, especially in non-small cell lung cancer[1][2][4][5]. However, TSPAN14-AS1 itself is a non-coding RNA without known pharmacological interactions, diagnostic/prognostic roles, or therapeutic implications at this time.
