Target intelligence / Profile preview

TSPAN16 antisense RNA 1 (TSPAN16-AS1)

Target
TSPAN16-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Other (does not fit classic categories like "receptor," "enzyme," etc.)
01

Overview

TSPAN16 antisense RNA 1 (TSPAN16-AS1, also known as HSPC102) is a human long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand adjacent to the TSPAN16 gene locus. Antisense lncRNAs typically regulate the expression of nearby or overlapping protein-coding genes via a variety of mechanisms, including altering chromatin structure, transcriptional interference, and mRNA stability. While some antisense lncRNAs have been implicated in disease, there is currently no specific evidence for the involvement of TSPAN16-AS1 itself in particular biological pathways or disease processes.

Other names
HSPC102
02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; there are no drugs targeting TSPAN16-AS1.

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (via antisense mechanisms)Likely regulates the expression of its partner/sense gene TSPAN16, based on general properties of antisense lncRNAs, but there are no reports of direct functions specific to TSPAN16-AS1
04

Disease associations

Other (for general antisense lncRNAs: potential involvement in gene dysregulation in disease, especially cancer, but there is no direct evidence specific to TSPAN16-AS1 at this time)
