TSPAN18 antisense RNA 1 (TSPAN18-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located at chromosome 11p11.2 and is transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the protein-coding tetraspanin gene TSPAN18[3][4]. As an antisense RNA, its primary biological function is believed to be regulation of gene expression, most likely at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level via base pairing or chromatin modification mechanisms typical of antisense RNAs[2][3]. There is currently no evidence to suggest that TSPAN18-AS1 is itself a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or classical drug target, nor are there drugs known to directly interact with it. Due to the general roles of antisense lncRNAs, TSPAN18-AS1 may participate in fine-tuning expression of the TSPAN18 gene, but specific functional, pathological, or therapeutic relevance has not yet been demonstrated in the literature[2][3][4].
