TTC39C antisense RNA 1 (TTC39C-AS1)

Target
TTC39C-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

TTC39C antisense RNA 1 (TTC39C-AS1) is a human long non-coding RNA gene transcribed from chromosome 18 that overlaps and runs antisense to the protein-coding gene TTC39C. It is categorized as an antisense long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) and is not known to encode a protein. Antisense lncRNAs can regulate neighboring or overlapping genes through RNA-RNA, RNA-DNA, or RNA-protein interactions, often in a strand-specific (cis) manner by affecting splicing, transcriptional activity, or chromatin state, although the specific functional role of TTC39C-AS1 itself has not been characterized. Multiple transcript isoforms exist, and conserved function has not been established. Patterns of expression and preliminary research suggest relevance to gene regulation in cancer (e.g., lung squamous cell carcinoma), but it is not a validated therapeutic target and there are no known (approved or experimental) drugs that target TTC39C-AS1[2][3][6].

Mechanism of action

Not applicable / none reported for direct targeting

03

Biological functions

May regulate expression of TTC39C gene in cis (neighboring gene regulation)General antisense lncRNA functions: gene expression modulation, alternative splicing regulation, transcriptional silencing, chromatin modification
04

Disease associations

Possible association with cancer (referenced in expression pattern studies in lung squamous cell carcinoma)Given as an archetype of AS-lncRNAs, which can have roles in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer, but no direct specificity for this transcript is reported
