Target intelligence / Profile preview
Tubulin alpha chain is a major structural protein that, together with the beta-tubulin chain, forms heterodimers which are the building blocks of microtubules. Microtubules are cylindrical polymers essential for maintaining cell shape, enabling intracellular transport, and facilitating cell division in all eukaryotic cells. Mutations in TUBA1A can cause lissencephaly type 3 (LIS3), characterized by abnormal neuronal migration leading to neurological deficits such as microcephaly and epilepsy. Tubulin isoforms are also drug targets in cancer therapy.
