Overview

Tubulin alpha pseudogene 10 (TUBAP10), also known as tubulin alpha 4a pseudogene, is a non-coding genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene within the tubulin alpha family[3]. Unlike protein-coding alpha-tubulin genes (such as TUBA1A[2]), pseudogenes lack the necessary sequence to produce functional protein and do not participate in microtubule formation or cellular structure. TUBAP10 is not considered a molecular target, lacks established clinical or therapeutic relevance, does not directly impact cellular function, and no drugs or biomarkers involve this pseudogene. Occasionally, pseudogenes may play a regulatory or evolutionary role at the RNA level, but currently there is no evidence linking TUBAP10 to human health or disease. There is some confusion in scientific databases due to the similarity of names between functional alpha-tubulin genes and their pseudogenes[3]. The actual protein-coding alpha-tubulin genes (such as TUBA1A, TUBA4A) are critical for cell biology and are considered legitimate therapeutic and research targets, but pseudogenes like TUBAP10 are not. If the intention was to refer to a protein-coding member, the canonical target should be specified (e.g., "Tubulin alpha 4a" or "Tubulin alpha 1a").
