Tubulin alpha pseudogene 2 (TUBAP2)

TUBAP2 (Tubulin alpha pseudogene 2) is a human pseudogene classified as an alpha-tubulin–related pseudogene[6]. Pseudogenes, including TUBAP2, are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are typically non-functional: they generally do not encode a functional protein due to disruptive mutations, lack of regulatory elements, or truncated coding sequences[6]. TUBAP2 is similar in sequence to other members of the alpha-tubulin gene family, which encode proteins that serve as structural components of microtubules in the cytoskeleton, but TUBAP2 does not give rise to a functional protein and has no known biological or disease role[6][7]. It should not be confused with functional tubulin genes, such as TUBA1A or TUBA4B, which do encode proteins critical for microtubule assembly and numerous essential cellular processes[1][8]. There are no known drugs that interact with TUBAP2, nor any known disease associations, safety concerns, or biomarker applications. Its designation as a pseudogene means it is not considered a valid therapeutic target.
